Between 1880 and 1930, Knob & Tube wiring also known as K&T was used extensively in residential building applications. It consists of single copper wires ran in walls and ceilings, passing through joist and stud holes by mean of a protective porcelain insulating tube and secured in long runs with porcelain insulators. Knob & tube became obsolete due to its high price tag in comparison to running an all encompassing cable.
